A high level resource and economic analysis in both fisheries and marine resources development to promote sustainable development goals toward the government aspirations for achieving the highest level of economic and social benefits from the marine resources in particular the fisheries and mineral resources.

HOW PDD WORKS
ON-GOING PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES
Objective:
The main purpose of this project is to enhance food security and most importantly is to develop and increase income generation to the local fishermen.
Background:
The Projects has been extensively covered most of outer islands which include: Makin, Butaritrai, Marakei, Abaiang, Kuria, Aranuka, Nonouti, Tab South, Tab North, Onotoa, Beru, Tamana, Arorae, Banaba, Teraina and Tabuaeran.
Objective
The long term key objective of this project is to reach out to the individual fishing household in providing affordable fishing canoes to enhance food security and promote economic growth within the fishery sector.
Background
The project will provide 50 local canoes (waa n oo) to each islands. The project implemented in stages as highlighted below:
Phase I: Nonouti, Tamana, Arorae, Kuria and Aranuka- almost completed
Phase II: Makin, Nikunau, Onotoa and Butaritari-almost completed
Phase III: Beru, Abaiang, Marakei, Tab South, Tab North, Abemama, Maiana, Teraina, Tabuaeran and Banaba- To be implemented as soon as all the materials arrive probably in February 2016.
Objective:
To enhance food security and increase income generation to Outer Islands communities.
Background:
The project will only provide a boat and engine to a community or village upon receiving a request. The receiver of the boat and engine will provide an operational and maintenance cost.
Objective;
Maximising and sustain long term food security, income generation and ensure safety at sea for artisanal fishing through accessible revolving loan scheme.
Background;
The Project would basically provide loans to artisanal fishermen in supplying fishing equipment and bigger boat that could maintain the quality of fish when fishing for more than 3 days.
Objective;
To improve the living conditions and welfare of the people at the outer islands and also increasing diversification of the economy in production leading to greater self-reliance and generation of cash employment
Background;
The project would provide a solar power system to Outer Islands that would powered the ice making machine and generator to minimize the high consumption of fuel which was very expensive.
