Development Objectives

The key objectives of this project include the following:

  • Provides centre for fish and local products
  • Provides ice cubes and fishing gears for local fishermen for both northern and southern fishermen living in Bairiki, Naikaai and Teoraereke
Outputs

The outputs expected to be derived from the project are appended below:

  • Improve the livelihood of the community
  • Improve/ increase income earning to the people of North Tarawa and South Tarawa especially in Bairiki.
Project

Background

  • The Ministry will construct the fishing centre at the Bairiki Wharf
  • The centre will provide a convenient market that will provide ice cubes for the local fishermen, fresh fish and local products
  • The project will assist unemployed people in enhancing income and increase food security
Status Last Quarter The construction of this project has already started at the end of last year, November 2016.
General The construction of the centre is still ongoing
Coordination Issues No issues encountered during the implementation of the project.
Project Monitoring Issues Monitoring has been conducted every week by MPWU staff with the assistance of PDD.
