Vision

For the next years and beyond, the MFMRD will operate to sustain, manage and promote marine and mineral resource through quality performance and good governance.
This vision will facilitate the achievement of the goal, objectives and activities specified in this plan.

Mission

MFMRD mission is based on what has been portrayed in the Kiribati Development Plan (KDP 2008-2011) aiming to facilitate the aspiration of the Government of Kiribati and most importantly Community members.  The mission is summarized as follows: -

  • To constantly offer technical advice and assistance that will support the Government of Kiribati for the establishment of Fisheries, Marine and Mineral related policies and laws for Kiribati,
  • To effectively and efficiently implement all Fisheries, Marine and Mineral policies and laws through all the services offered by MFMRD,
  • To promote capacity building and community empowerment to conserve and sustain, Fisheries, Marine and Mineral resources for all I-Kiribati and
  • To constantly work closely with Regional and International partners to update and develop research in key areas hence to put in place valuable and realistic measures that will progressively generate revenue and maximize economic return to Kiribati
  • To maintain integrity of marine ecosystems upon which fisheries and other livelihoods in terms of economic, social and cultural systems depend.
