Fisheries Division

Mission

The Fisheries Division will strive to develop and implement programs and activities to ensure that the vision set forth by the Ministry is developed and achieved to a favorable level by the year 2012.

Objectives

In achieving our mission, the Fisheries Division will focus on the following key objectives;

• Establish and implement sound management regime to ensure sustainable utilization of the marine resources
• Maintain and enhance Food Security,
• Enhance and promote Capacity Building,
• Enable Environment for Equitable Distribution of Wealth,
• Provide support services to the local fishing community,
• Promote Economic Development and commercialization of marine resources,
• Maximize returns from the marine resources, and.
• Promote and enhance participation of fishers in the fishery sector

In achieving these objectives, the Fisheries Division will endeavor to implement programs and activities as provided in the following tables.  It is important to note that some programs and activities geared and implemented to fulfill our mission have to certain levels been achieved and hence the need to focus our effort to areas that are still in the planning phase. Each program and activity would be reviewed each year to determine the level of achievement and make adjustments accordingly in terms of directed effort and funding support.
